Trade Activation Intelligence

Turning promotions, sampling and trade activity into measurable commercial learning.

Interview insightProposed capability

Blue Power Is Already Creating Demand. The Opportunity Is to Learn More From It.

Blue Power already invests in trade promotions, in-store visibility, promotional offers, sampling and event activations. These activities can create awareness and trial quickly, particularly within a distributor-led route-to-market model.

The opportunity is not simply to increase activity. It is to create a lightweight measurement layer that helps Blue Power understand which activations are producing the strongest consumer response, where that response is occurring and whether it translates into commercial performance.

Blue Power is already using multiple channels to place products directly in front of consumers.

Measurement today

Activity Is Visible. Consumer Response Is Harder to See.

Easier to measure

  • Number of samples distributed
  • Units sold during an activation
  • Number of promotional locations
  • Event participation
  • Activation cost
  • Social/organic consumer reaction
  • Distributor / retailer feedback

Harder to measure consistently

  • Who tried the product
  • Whether they liked it
  • Whether they purchased later
  • Which message / offer worked best
  • Which event generated stronger response
  • Which location performed best
  • Trial-to-purchase conversion
  • Repeat purchase
  • Best consumer segment

Blue Power indicated during the interview that consumer feedback can be collected deliberately, but it requires organisation and additional effort.

Measurement exists, but the feedback loop can be strengthened.

A Lightweight Measurement Layer

Proposed capability

The objective is not to build a large consumer-research programme. It is to add small, low-friction measurement points around activities Blue Power is already running.

01

Identify the Activation

Every campaign / event receives a simple campaign ID.

02

Capture a Response

QR code, short mobile form, promoter-assisted entry or digital link.

All consumer interactions and commercial signals from that activation should connect back to the campaign ID. This creates a common reference point across agencies, marketing activity and internal reporting.

Capture Feedback Without Turning It Into a Survey

Soap can't be tasted on the spot, so the booth form only asks what shoppers can judge immediately — scent, lather and skin-feel after a quick hand-wash, plus purchase intent. How it performed after washing arrives later through the take-home sample follow-up.

How feedback actually works

Four Pathways From Soap Activation to Real Feedback

Unlike food sampling, a shopper can't consume soap on the spot. Each pathway captures what can realistically be measured at that moment — first impression at the booth, post-wash results at home, the promoter's narrative, and finally the store's own sales signal.

  1. Scent & lather at the booth
  2. Take-home sample
  3. WhatsApp follow-up (day 3–5)
  4. Store sales & reorder

01

Same visit

At the Booth — Scent, Lather & Purchase Intent

Shoppers can't wash a load of laundry on the spot, but they can judge a lot immediately.

  • Scent test — smell the fragrance directly (peppermint, tea tree, aloe).
  • Hand-wash station — water, basin and towel let shoppers feel the lather and skin-feel right at the display.
  • The form asks only immediate questions: which scent caught your eye, how likely are you to pick it up on your next trip (1–5), where do you usually buy soaps like this.

02

Day 3–5

Take-Home Sample — Post-Wash Follow-Up

How it performed at home is answered days later, not at the booth.

  • The sample wrap carries the Campaign ID and a QR code: "Scan after your first wash to tell us how your skin feels."
  • If the shopper opts in with a phone number, one automated WhatsApp/SMS message goes out 3–5 days later.
  • It asks the question the booth can't: how did your skin feel after using it (1 Too dry – 5 Great moisture).

03

Per shift

Promoter Narrative — Objection Logging

Promoters hear dozens of reactions per hour, with or without a form.

  • Comparisons — "Is this Jamaica's version of Dr. Bronner's?"
  • Unmet needs — "Is it safe for babies or eczema?"
  • Friction — "Love the scent, but J$500 feels high next to basic beauty bars."
  • Promoters log these high-frequency themes at the end of each shift, adding qualitative intelligence alongside sample counts.

04

Week 1–2

The Real Rating — The Store Sales Signal

Consumer sentiment is half the equation. The register is the judge.

  • Did retail sales lift in that pharmacy during the promotion weekend?
  • Did that store place a reorder with the distributor the following week?
  • Consumer feedback explains why a campaign worked; the sales signal says whether it worked at all.

Why four pathways? A single booth survey would force shoppers to answer a question they can't yet answer ("how did it wash?"). Splitting the capture by moment — immediate, delayed, observed, and commercial — keeps every question answerable and makes the data trustworthy.

AI is not responsible for calculating causal ROI.

"Which activations produced the strongest purchase intent?"
"What are consumers saying most often about Castile?"
"Which campaigns showed both strong feedback and a positive sales signal?"
"Which events generated reach but little measurable follow-through?"
"What recurring product requests are appearing?"

Agency accountability

Give Agencies a Clearer Measurement Standard

Instead of only

  • Photos
  • Samples distributed
  • Staffing report

The activation report could include

Campaign ID Locations Samples Responses Response rate Consumer themes Issues encountered Store feedback Sales signal where available

This does not require the agency to own Blue Power's commercial analysis. It creates a more consistent handoff of activation data.

The practical difference

Illustrative wording

Before

"We distributed 5,000 samples."

After

"We distributed 5,000 samples, 620 consumers responded, 71% indicated purchase intent, pharmacies produced the strongest response and participating stores showed a positive commercial signal."

Before

"The event went well."

After

"The event created strong awareness, but in-store conversion was limited — suggesting that future spend should either focus on awareness objectives or be paired with stronger retail availability."

Commercial Outcome

Spend With More Confidence.

Trade Activation Intelligence gives Blue Power a stronger feedback loop between marketing activity and commercial decision-making. The goal is not to eliminate experimentation. It is to learn faster from each activation and direct future investment toward the activities producing the most valuable response.

ActivateMeasureLearnReallocateImprove

Every activation should leave Blue Power with more than exposure — it should leave the company with information that improves the next commercial decision.

Next growth lever

Prioritize Higher-Value Innovation

Trade activations can do more than generate awareness. They can become a continuous source of consumer and market intelligence that helps Blue Power determine which products, benefits and opportunities deserve further investment.
